Where it began

My journey through this hobby of Amateur Radio began before it began. As a teen, or perhaps even earlier, I had a love for tech, gadgets, cb radio and electronics. The world of CB radio was first on my radar, but I couldn’t tell you at this point where or when I was first introduced to it. I know my grandpa had a cb radio in his truck, but was never allowed to use it at the time. I understand now what he was shielding my young ears from. I got older and was all-in in the world of citizens band radio. My dad even installed a tower in the back yard for my younger brother and I to put up a base antenna. It was during the base station at home days when I also discovered “skip”. At this point I had heard of something called ham radio, but didn’t know anything about what it actually involved or how to learn more about it. We didn’t have the internet back in those days. I had installed cb radios in my car as a teen in high school and some of my closet friends did the same. It was the best of times for a geek like me. Lots of fun was had in CB world and eventually I grew older and I moved on to other things as most of us do. It would take many more years for me to return to my love of radio, and final learn what amateur radio was all about. I’m glad I did.
